Workspaces vs. Workflows vs. Boards

2 min read

If you look around on the site, you might be asking yourself, “What’s the difference between a workspace and a workflow?” We’re here to help you understand what they are and how they work.

Workspaces

Let’s start with Workspaces. Your workspace is where all your workflows live. You’ll be able to create new workflows in this space, delete them, rename them and organize them in folders. Think of your workspace as a set of shelves you put books and other items on to store them.

If you’re sharing workspaces, you can use the dropdown at the top of the workspace to jump between them all. Tap the little arrow at the top-right to lock or unlock the workspace area to the side menu.

Now that we have a handle on the workspaces, let’s talk about workflows!

Workflows

Workflows consist of common, repeatable steps that happen in a process. In Healier, our workflows are focused on steps a patient might go through like onboarding, scheduling, labs, or treatment. The statuses in a workflow can be anything you want where you need to track steps that happen over time.

Not all workflows need to be patient-focused, however. Some workflows are used for event tracking, general task, or for compliance. We find that the best workflows are ones that track cards over a longer period. This allows you to come back and not lose track of where you last left off with a patient or task.

List & Board Views

As you’ve probably figured out by now, board and list views are just different ways to view your workflow. They both have the same info, just laid out horizontally or vertically. See our help article for more info on those options.

Use the one that best suits you. List view tends to work better for longer workflows, but most people like the Board views for seeing the info they need quickly.

Sometimes, you might hear or see someone refer to a board on platforms like these. In this case, a board is just another term for a workflow. It comes from “Kanban Boards”, but that’s another story.
